The general consensus right now is that there is no better time to buy a gaming PC. Uncertainty is creeping back in for those who have waited too long for their ultimate gaming PC, and the industry is shrugging its shoulders yet again when GPU pricing is discussed. The new graphics cards we're expecting from AMD, Intel and Nvidia have been enveloped in a cynical cloud, as gamers predict scalpers will have their way yet again, and supplies of the latest cards could come under scrutiny yet again.
So, why wait?
The latest and greatest graphics cards, fast memory, performance processors and rock solid motherboards are already here, and waiting for the masses. Stocks are steady, and some prices have already begun to drop in anticipation of the changing crypto landscape and new hardware releases.
Finding Value In High End Gaming
I once had horse racing odds explained to me by an octogenarian in a betting shop one sunny Grand National day. He told me that your task as a punter is not to seek out the best looking horse or hottest sounding favourite. Your task is to find value.
The game is rigged, of course, and even if you bet on every horse in a race, the bookies still stand to make a profit. However, by investing your hard earned cash in multiple horses that are well-priced, you can find the value. It is a short process of looking at the odds of each horse that can beat the favourite, and it works a treat at keeping your money out of the bookies' pockets.
Not to derail this gaming PC article too much with this analogy, but the logic is sound and can be applied to many other situations where you find yourself in a market that has too much overpricing.
Good Value Pre-Built PCs
You might still have a very bitter taste in your mouth when you see GPUs at 5x their MSRP, and that is to be expected. One of the best ways to extract value from the current market is with a pre-built gaming PC, where the retailer has attractive pricing over all components because the margin on the other components is high enough to make a profit.
Let's look at CPUs, for instance. The Ryzen 7 5800X has seen price drops of around £100 with some e-retailers, making it ripe for a gaming PC spec. Couple this with a ten percent drop in SSD storage pricing, and you can see where the PC builders are making savings. These savings can be passed on in pre-builds very easily, and will draw a crowd.
